In August of 1984, Engineer
Pedro Vieira received an invitation from the CEO of SYNECTICS MEDICAL AB (Sweden),
Mr. Anders Essen-Muller, to begin producing catheters with Antimony
Monocrystaline pH sensors.
Eng. Pedro Vieira headed for SYNECTICS MEDICAL AB in Stockholm where he
received the appropriate training.
In May of 1985 the production started in Portugal with the pH catheter, with
only one sensor and external reference electrode.
In 1986, due to the implementation of improved manufacturing technologies,
began the production of multi-sensor models and paediatric models.
On the 13th of July, 1987 the SYNECTICS MEDICAL - Equipamento Electrónico de
Medicina Lda. company was founded by SYNECTICS MEDICAL AB and Engineer Pedro
Vieira. From this day onwards all catheters sold by Synectics Medical AB
would be manufactured by Synectics Medical, Lda.
On the 25th of September, 1989, Dr. Maria Manuela Perneco Cunha Vieira
joined the company.
In 1988 SYNECTICS MEDICAL AB was acquired by Medtronic, becoming thereon
known as MEDTRONIC SYNECTICS AB.
In March 2000, SYNECTICS MEDICAL, Lda. manufactured the first catheters with
an internal reference electrode.
In 2002 new manufacturing facility in Queluz de Baixo, was acquired .
On the 6th of July, 2007, Medtronic Synectics AB and Dr. Maria Manuela
Perneco Cunha Vieira sold their participation in the company to SYNECTICS
MEDICAL, Lda. The manager of SYNECTICS MEDICAL, Lda. is the Engineer Pedro
Vieira.
